St. Pius X Church
Scarsdale, New York

The new Russell and Company pipe organ for the St. Pius X Church has 37 ranks on two manuals and pedal. It is Opus 60 of the firm and was completed in June of 2019.

The instrument is located at the rear of the church, a stunning contemporary building and housed in a simple contemporay casework based upon architectural detail within the room.

Sapele, a mahogany substitute, with a natural finish, was chosen for the casework. The console is constructed of true mahogany. The organ has a detached console with electric key action and electric slider stop action with solid-state controls. The console, of traditional Skinner style design, is mounted on castors to permit flexibility in its location for use with the choir at the rear of the sanctuary or at the front of the sanctuary for solo recitals. The tonal design of the instrument has been carefully considered so as to produce a rich singing quality in ensemble, as well as elegant and colorful individual voices.

While the majority of pipework in the instrument is new, several ranks have been sourced from pre-existing pipework of high quality. All pre-existing material was rebuilt and revoiced to suit the tonal scheme.

All straight flue ranks are located on electric slider and pallet chests. Unit stops are on all electric or electro-pneumatic chests as required.

Flues are voiced on 3 1/2" wind pressure, chorus reeds on 5" wind pressure.
